I have a health issue called chronic venous insufficiency in my legs which is hereditary and the person I know to have had the problem before me was my paternal grandfather. I also now have one of my brothers with the condition. I discovered it some ten years ago due to discovering what was a non-healing ulcer on the inside of my right ankle. By the time I saw the proper doctor to treat it my right leg was severely infected. I had intravenously administered antibiotics several days followed by a week of oral antibiotics every six hours. After the infection was gone, I returned to the doctor for an examination using an ultrasound on my right leg. He then scheduled an appointment to close the saphenous vein on my leg. What an experience that was. Later I began seeing a doctor my brother used for other veins that he closed with a foaming agent. I had been buying suggested compression stockings from these doctors to assist blood flow until I found the same brand substantially cheaper with a company. I buy them now on the company's website. My left leg has it full blown now but I have learned to manage it with compression stockings. Nothing has ever been done to my left leg. I have discovered that an insurance company will not cover procedures for this condition unless you have an ulcer. That is why my right leg was covered.

I am explaining all this because at times I can get a severe cramp on the inside of my right thigh where part of the vein closure happened that is very excruciating, to say the least. Five nights ago I had one. Rolled over in bed and woke up to it starting. Honestly you freak out a little because you know what is coming. It wakes you up really fast and no massaging the area or anything will help, been there and tried them all. But a condiment a lot of people have in their refrigerator just plain old French's Yellow Mustard in my opinion is great stuff. The only reason I keep it in my refrigerator and the only thing I ever use it for. I wobbled out of bed and wobbled into the kitchen, got a tablespoon out of the drawer and the mustard out of the refrigerator. Sometimes I will pour a half glass too but, if I am currently in an unbearable pain, the water can come after it subsides. I squirt a tablespoon full of mustard, turn the spoon over in my mouth and lick the mustard off of it. By the time I do this the third time the cramp is subsiding. It is hugely impressive. I then drink the water to muffle of the taste. I have actually did it before going to bed before to preempt it due to the night before. It was due to the resulting fear.

How I found out that yellow mustard will do this I do not remember. You would think it would be burned into my memory. I do know a guy that I used to work with who was also a volunteer paramedic told me that they carry the little squeeze packages in their medical kit for that reason. It is actually the Turmeric they use to color the mustard that relieves the cramp.

Yes I get cramps in other leg muscles at times but they are usually in the middle of the summer when I get a little dehydrated. The mustard helps year round. The thigh cramp I can get in the middle of the winter but I have noticed it tends to happen if at work my job gets more active. I am trying to fix something and it is more physical in nature. Five days ago we had a big issue at work and that night I got the cramp.
